It is a source of great pride that we have a good reputation for producing horses carefully and correctly.
We think it is essential in the formative years to produce a horse with the correct principles, in line with the scales of training, while also in that time developing a strong positive relationship with each horse in order to maximise each horses potential.
When horses are competing it is always done with the 'bigger picture' in mind, the one day events are very much treated as further training to ensure that when the horses get to the big competitions they are ready to be competitive. While bearing in mind that every owner loves to come away from an event with a rosette.
We regularly take horses in for:
Horses that have lost their way, respond well to our clear and positive training system. Ross loves the challenge of thinking through any problem a horse may have.
Backing/Young Horse Production
Ross backed his first horse at 16 and has lost count of the number he has done since then. He does all the work (including the initial backing) himself. Plenty of time is given to the long reining of young horses firstly around the farm and then around the quite local lanes.
Owners often like to send us their young horses for their first experience of jumping, cross country or a competition outing this can be done on a long or short term livery basis.
Jump Education For Racehorses
Ross' previous experience as an Assistant Trainer and Point to Point Jockey in a successful pointing yard, coupled with his boundless patience and use of poles can be very beneficial for improving a racehorse's jumping technique.
Holiday Care & Schooling
A number of people chose to send their horse to us while they are away on holiday. They can enjoy themselves knowing their horse is getting first class care and training. And will be kept fit and well ready for their return.
Rider Training - Including Training Holidays With Your Horse
Being the first horseman in his family means all Ross' knowledge was acquired through generous trainers and mentors.
Ross loves to share his acquired knowledge with riders of all ages and abilities. He is fast developing a reputation for being particularly helpful to riders who have little confidence.
Being situated just 30 minutes from the M4 and just 40 minutes from the M5 means we are ideally placed to accommodate clients with their own horse for short term residential training. This is a service that is becoming increasingly popular.
From Laura with Obie our most recent guest on a training holiday with their horse.
"I was looking for a trainer who didn't want shortcut methods, someone who was calm, patient and someone who wouldn't ask us to do something we weren't capable of but who would push us to reach our full potential. Someone who could, in the longer term not just improve our results but improve our partnership. I wasn't disappointed! From the first session, aims were clear, goals small and achievable but with a long term aim still within focus. Already just a few weeks after starting training with Ross my horse has begun to look very different, as the correct muscles improve he is getting significantly stronger. He is also happier as the lines of communication become clearer. Ross is always incredibly patient, even when he is bombarded with questions. He has given me advice not just on training methods but on nutrition in order to maximise performance. Sadly we currently live over an hour away but know we will be back regularly!"
